Cyndy Montgomery Reeves
Founder & Festival Director
“When I attended the 16th Annual Key West Songwriter’s Festival, I thought to myself, ‘What is this? A songwriters’ festival belongs in the Smoky Mountains where bluegrass, country and old time music originated.’ The Appalachian Mountains have such a long, rich and deep history of pickers, singers, and songwriters. I immediately met with the City of Gatlinburg’s Special Events Director, George Hawkins suggesting that we start a Smoky Mountains Songwriter’s Festival and he agreed.”
The Smoky Mountains Songwriters Festival is now held every August to “Celebrate Our Appalachian Musical Roots”.
And Our Smokin’ Team
I am the Special Projects manager for Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies. I have worked for Ripley’s for over 16 years. I became involved with the Songwriters Festival in the first year as it was being formed and joined the festival fully in the 3rd year as the festival coordinator.
Festival Adminstrative Assistant and Volunteer Coordinator
I have been involved in the SMSWF for 4 years. It has become my family’s favorite event of the year. The amazing music, people, town and creativity that takes place at this festival is truly one of a kind. I have taken a more active role this year as the Volunteer Coordinator. We need many additional volunteers to enable the SMSWF to take place. We realize that the volunteer staff is a vital part of the SMSWF. This will be the year of the Volunteer. If you or anyone you know love music, Mountains, great people and a great time and want to volunteer contact Michele at:Songwritervolunteers@gmail .com.
“I am honored to say that I have been with the Smoky Mountains Songwriters Festival from the beginning. It is exciting to see the continual growth each year brings. What better place to have a songwriters festival than the Great Smoky Mountains!” Shane is the productions director and audio engineer for the festival, and is also a musician himself.
